Aeration sometimes referred to as “Coring” “Core Aeration” “Lawn Coring” is a process where an aerator is used to mechanically punch tines into the ground and remove a core of soil from your lawn hence the name “Core Aeration”
The best time for Hollow tine or Core Aeration is in Spring time and Autumn time
Spring Time – loosens up the soil below and encourages grass roots to grow longer and deeper preparing the lawn for summer heat, it is also the best time to get down fertiliser, soil amendments and soil wetters while you have an exposed only soil profile.
Autumn Time – Relieves the compaction from summer use, lawn mowing etc and prepares your lawn for winter rains to maximise root growth and to prevent water from pooling on the surface creating fungal issues.
Benefits
- Relieves compacted soils
- Allows Air, water Nutrients to reach the root zone
- Can alleviate hydrophobic soils in conjunction with soil wetter
